Monday is when I tackle some Five Sentence Fiction. Feel free to take Lillie McFerrin’s challenge to write a five sentence story based on a single word prompt. The word does not have to appear in your five sentences, just used for direction. This week’s word is Thunder.
Jake was a wreck. The dark sky flashed brilliant white, fleetingly illuminating everything in comic book contrast. The thunder, deep and percussive, followed almost immediately in an extended ripping rattle that ended in a chest thumping boom. Jake whimpered and snuggled in closer to her and she put a reassuringly, protective arm around him. Diane looked down into his pleading brown eyes and said, “It’s okay, buddy, the storm will pass,” which meant nothing to Jake but he liked the sound of her voice and he thumped his tail against the couch.
